Generic OBD-II functionality available for your VCM!
Interested in reading codes for makes and models outside of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury vehicles? With the percentage of non-FLM vehicles being serviced in our dealer repair facilities increasing, it makes sense to provide functionality that can assist in these repairs. Generic OBD-II functionality has been added to the VCM to expand its capability and make it even more useful! This new feature can only function with a VCM that is purchased through Ford Motor Company – Rotunda.

Generic OBD-II is being offered free of charge and can be downloaded by accepting the terms and conditions expressed and registering your VCM through this simple 2-step process described below. The feature that is downloaded will only work on the PC where the application resides. Each VCM will require enrollment in order for the functionality to work. The PC and VCM will require the latest version of IDS (Release 64 or higher) and VCM software installed.

INFORMATION REGARDING GENERIC OBD-II Tool: The Generic OBD-II Tool is designed to diagnose non-FLM MY2005 or newer models that meet US OBD-II Regulations; therefore, it may not function on older models (before MY2005). The tool only checks OBD-II regulations.
Some features may not operate correctly on some models, even when it is MY2005 or newer and meets US OBD-II Regulations (according to SAE standard J1699-3). Because there are still some areas that some automotive manufacturers have design-deviations which prevent Generic OBD-II Function from operating properly. This is not failure of Generic OBD function itself.
The tool is provided 'as is' without any warranty, either express or implied, with regard to it fitness for any particular purpose. The licensor does not warrant that the functions contained in the tool will meet the customer's requirements or that the operation of the tool will be uninterrupted or error free or that defects in the software will be corrected. Generic OBD-II functionality is intended for U.S. customers only.

The Generic On-Board Diagnostics, or OBDII, is a generic term referring to a vehicle's self-diagnostic and reporting capability.
MODE 1: PID Data Monitor - obtain current diagnostic data including: number of Trouble codes set, status of on-board tests, and vehicle data.
MODE 2: Freeze Frame - captures and stores at some point in time when a malfunction occurred and a trouble code was set.
MODE 3: DTCs – requests all emission related diagnostic trouble codes from the vehicle.
MODE 4: Clear DTCs - instructs the vehicle to clear all diagnostic trouble codes that may be set. .
MODE 6: Diagnostic Monitor Test Result (EVAP, catalyst, EGR, etc.) - obtain test results for on-board diagnostic monitor test of specific systems that are not continuously monitored.
MODE 7: Continuous Monitors – monitors codes which may be set after a single drive cycle (also known as 'pending' trouble codes).
MODE 8: On-board System Readiness – requests control of an on-board system, test or component.
MODE 9: Vehicle Information - report vehicle information such as the VIN number, and possibly calibration information stored in the vehicle ECU.
